Yacht Captain

Captain Jeff has been a proud member of the FantaSea family since 2008 and loves being a captain. A professional mariner since 1971, Jeff retired from the U. S. Coast Guard in 2002 after an extremely rewarding thirty-one year career of which his last fourteen years serving in Southern California waters. He was involved in many exciting Search and Rescue, and Law Enforcement cases. Captain Jeff enjoyed the Southern California environment so much that he dropped anchor after retirement and decided to stay in the Los Angeles area.

Captain Jeff loves piloting yachts and teaching boating safety. As a part-time instructor at the Maritime Institute in San Diego since 2003, and as a Master Instructor Trainer with the National Safe Boating Council, Captain Jeff travels around the country teaching instructor level boat control courses. Jeff also manages and skippers three private yachts in Marina del Rey. Jeff has trained/mentored over 50 yacht owners on their yachts in the LA area making them safer, more confident skippers. Jeff was awarded a Letter of Commendation in 2006, from the National Water Safety Congress for his accomplishments and contributions to boating safety.

Captain Jeff has been a member of the California Boating Safety Officers Association since 1995, and currently serves on the executive board. Through this association and his Coast Guard career, he has networked heavily and maintains a solid working relationship with agencies throughout California, especially the LA County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol, LA County Lifeguards and LA County Fire Station 110 in Marina del Rey.

He has a passion for wanting every guest to feel welcome and have the best on water experience of their life, while ensuring that the yacht is ship shape and ready for the trip. Above all else, he maintains a strict code of safety and risk management for the yacht, crew and guests at all times. Jeff is a First Aid/CPR Instructor and trains the FantaSea crew in First Aid and CPR every year. Jeff continues to mentor the talented crew at FantaSea and is dedicated to helping them reach their dream of becoming a captain for FantaSea one day. He is often heard saying that he gets to work for the best charter company, in the best harbor on the west coast!
