Life steps in and throws a curve ball

Posted September 25, 2012 by Fantasea Yachts Team

When you are focused and gaining momentum towards bridal progress the last thing you expect is a family medical emergency.

Talk about derailed; my dad went to the hospital for diabetes, actually still in there as I am writing this. I am a 100% Daddy’s girl and the thought of him in pain or losing him shakes up my little snow globe.  Thankfully we found out that he will be keeping his limbs which is a relief but I felt a sadness for him as well as a wave of reality which I feel I was losing the closer I am getting to our date. With your head in the clouds and your sight set on the altar, where does reality go exactly? Out of the binder, that’s for sure.

When I came to work the day after all of this, I find on my desk a personalized gift from Stephanie Ginzburg she had spent some time on for our wedding. Being that I had Pops on my mind and was worried for him, seeing my fiancé and my name in such a beautiful and thoughtful gift made me feel so calm and certain everything was going to be ok.

And it is. He has a 5-week recovery in the hospital and should still be able to walk me down the aisle, which was his biggest concern. No more being worried, stress is gone (for now) and all is well in our universe again.

Love and family led the way, as it can sometimes do. Everything will fall into place, as it tends to do. Those that try and cause drama or stress about the wedding will dissolve into the background. We will get married. It will be overwhelmingly beautiful. And we WILL live happily ever after.

Today 9/25 is his birthday and he will be getting a wonderful surprise at the hospital from his only family in California. Me.

Happy Birthday Daddy. I love you.

Checking off the to-do list…46 days to go!

Posted September 18, 2012 by Fantasea Yachts Team

  • Violently checking off our to-do list with high fives all around. 46 days, Go Team! No more playing the “We’ve still got plenty of time” game. Invites are done man. Woo hoo! I’d like to thank FantaSea Staff Jasmine Lee & Stephanie Ginzburg for helping me rock these out in a jiffer. You guys are totally my work maids of honor ;o) The coordination and ideas these two had at the last minute was a lifesaver. Brides you are in good hands with our team. Seriously.
  • Ceremony décor almost completely purchased, flower girl baskets were only $4 each (Downtown Flower mart) and the surprise purchase of the weekend was my wedding band. Super sweet! Only set us back about $120 in white gold and real diamonds. I was ready to settle for an inexpensive but pretty Swarovski black crystals band for budget reasons, but my fiancé said “nope, not if I can help it”, which I was obviously fine with. Obviously.
  • RSVP’s are coming in at a glacial pace, which immediately makes us feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
  • Reception: Changes to the flowers must be made asap as the maid of honor dresses do not match the muted green hydrangea we ordered a lot of. Teal and muted green… not so much. Still have to figure out the hanging reception décor but we have a good idea and this should be wrapped up shortly. The answer = moss, moss moss!
  • Bachelor/ette Party is booked and ready to rock. Mani’s & Pedi’s in the A.M for the girls only part of the day, local casino for the guys and we’re rocking Karaoke with a co-ed bash in the P.M for a true B-Party: Bachelor/ette & Birthday Bash. Can’t wait for my co-workers to bust a move on the mic! You have no idea!

It’s funny that I completely forgot about my upcoming birthday with all these wedding shenanigans. It was a deal sweetener that we had a celebrity sighting while booking it. Just adds to the wedding adventures. Game on! Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday to my fiancé!! Almost missed that one too. His birthday is tomorrow 9/19. Oopsie. Where’s my wedding binder?!  If it’s not in my binder, does it really exist right now? Lol. And we’re back.

Seriously though thank you FantaSea staff for helping this almost frantic bride stay sane. I guess it’s a huge blessing that I work for the best event planning company. Love you guys.

Call OUT!

Got down to business over the Labor Day weekend and accomplished a lot on my list. With just 52 days to go and a full time job as a planner myself,  I have to check off as many to do’s as possible, at warp speed. As noted above….the invites are in the final stage.

Rule #1. ORGANIZE – It is important to stay organized, especially with so many details and ideas swirling around in my head.  Find the right wedding website that works for you – they are great for reminders. I am all about the reminders. I have them on several different sites. Whenever we hang out with friends or family we have our handy dandy wedding bag (actually a duffle bag meant for traveling, just to give you a visual) full of checklists, my rapidly growing 3 inch 3-ring binder, the most recent wedding supplies catalogs and a great wedding magazine I found with a bunch of DIY suggestions with us everywhere.

SPOILER ALERT – In case my family is reading this.

Rule # 2. ORGANIZE – All the men in our wedding have reservations for the tuxes, it was a must. They don’t know this yet but we are going to be purchasing the classic black converse for their shoes the day of.

Rule # 3. ORGANIZE – With all these wonderful things going on in my head….My favorite most recent wedding genius moment of the week is: My fiancé and I have decided to perform a song together before the processional begins from behind the scenes out of guests view. The duet will consist of him playing guitar and I singing one of our favorite songs. A very special private performance for just our immediate family while we are lined up and ready to process down the aisle.  With the “first look” taking care of the reveal and the private performance out of guest view hopefully nerves won’t be an issue.  Guests will hear but they won’t see us until we walk down the aisle. This is a great way to get tears flowing before the Ceremony, which we intend to do. I find great pleasure in making every single one of our guests bawl their eyes out before, during and after our event. So wrong but feels so right.

Rule # 4. ORGANIZE -  Just sent an email off to the caterer – better to have a paper trail with all my communications at this stage. Being at FantaSea Yachts has really helped me with my own planning process, I’m a lucky gal, not everyone has an Executive Chef to turn to with menu questions and options for seasonal preferences.
